The MA Degree in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy is offered by the Babes-Bolyai University in partnership with the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy.

Program Curriculum

The program consists of 120 ECTS credits in total and has a duration of four semesters, which take place in both Berlin, Germany and Cluj, Romania. The first two semesters of the program are hosted by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin and the third and the forth semesters are hosted by the Babes-Bolyai University.

The degree focuses on several academic disciplines related to International Relations, International Economics, and Global Politics, with a particular emphasis on Cultural Diplomacy and its historical and contemporary application in the public sector, private sector and civil society. The degree prepares students for careers in diverse fields, such as the field of international relations, the humanities, politics, and culture, with a special focus on cultural diplomacy institutions and the application of Cultural Diplomacy in the framework of foreign policy and international economics.

Accreditation

The Master’s Degree is awarded by Babeş-Bolyai University, which is recognized as a fully accredited institution of higher education with the right to award university degrees. Babeş-Bolyai University is part of the Bologna Process set in place by the European Commission, and uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) to award degrees. Credits obtained through our MA program are equivalent to those of courses at universities in all other 30+ signatory countries. Students will earn 30 credits per semester during our MA program, for a total of 120 credits upon completion.

Scholarship

Scholarships, equaling up to 10% deduction of tuition costs are available for students based on educational excellence and/ or financial need. Although each scholarship request will be evaluated on an individual basis, students are expected to have an above-average grade point of 4.5 (of 5.0) in order to qualify for a grant. The Financial Aid application is a two-step process; Students interested in applying for a scholarship are required to submit their initial aid application request as soon as they have formally applied to the program, completed the first step of the application, and have been accepted into the program. Scholarships are then determined for the second and 4th semesters.


Dates & Deadlines:

The Semesters of the Academic Year 2014/2015 will take place in the following locations and dates:

• The first semester will take place in Berlin between the dates of October 01st - December 19th, 2014
• The second semester will take place in Berlin between the dates of February 17th - May 9th, 2015
• The third semester will take place in Cluj between the dates of October01st, 2015 - December 19th, 2015
• The forth semester will take place in Cluj between the dates of February 16th - May 8th, 2015

Program Curriculum

The first semester in Berlin begins with a Preliminary Studies & Orientation component to prepare students for their academic graduate program. The main priority of the curriculum for the first semester is to provide students with a solid foundation and understanding of the history and contemporary practice of Cultural Diplomacy, as well as future applications of the field.

Students will begin their academic studies at the University of Siena during the second semester of the program. The primary focuses of the curriculum for the second semester are the essential theories, practices, and institutions in the fields of International Relations and Global Governance. Students will attend four modular classes and will be assessed based on class participation and the completion of term papers.

Professional Development Training Program

The Professional Development Training Program provides students with the opportunity to apply in practice what they learn in theory in their studies. The program is of 7 weeks in duration and is to be completed after the conclusion of the first or the second semester of studies. The program may be scheduled in the period either immediately following the first semester (before the second semester) or following the second semester either in Berlin or in the location of the student's choice (however under the supervision of the student's professional advisors at the ICD).

Scholarship

Scholarships, equaling up to 10% deduction of tuition costs are available for students based on educational excellence and/ or financial need. Although each scholarship request will be evaluated on an individual basis, students are expected to have an above-average grade point of 4.5 (of 5.0) in order to qualify for a grant. Operating under a joint partnership, The International Telematic University UNINETTUNO and the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy are the first institutions to offer a Master of Arts degree program that will educate students from around the world in several academic disciplines related to International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy.

Program Curriculum
The Online MA Program in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy is four semesters in duration and consists of an overall total of 120 ECTS credits. The curriculum is designed to include a mixture of video-lessons, seminars, exercises, conferences, as well as tutoring and research activities. The Online MA is divided into sixteen modules comprising both mandatory and elected subjects. For each module, a coordinator, a professor (communicating via video-lectures), and a tutorial professor (communicating interactively via the web-platform and other medium) is provided to students in order to teach each subject in a thorough and comprehensive manner. The students play an active role in their studies and interact with all of the above listed individuals due to the flexible and interactive nature of studying online. In the course of their studies, the students receive guidance via an online tutoring system, which equips them with the necessary tools for successful studies.

The use of a WEB macro-area platform known as the Didactic Cyberspace is available for all students. The Didactic Cyberspace platform aids individual learning and development as students can access useful and important information simultaneously via a single platform. The platform is for Professors, Tutors and Students and consists of three sections:

• Materials, which constitute the course contents
• Distance Tutoring
• The virtual classroom, known as the Island of Knowledge on Second Life

Program Curriculum

The program curriculum consists of a total of 4 semesters. The first semester of the program takes place in Berlin at the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy and the remaining 3 semesters take place Bucharest at the University of Bucharest. The degree consists of 120 ECTS credits and provides students with an expertise in analytic philosophy and cultural diplomacy, preparing them for careers in the field of the humanities, academia, politics, international relations and beyond.

In the academic framework of the curriculum of the studies in philosophy, a special emphasis is given to cultural diplomacy and its contemporary application in the public sector, private sector and civil society. Parallel to the studies, students participate in the professional development program of the ICD in order to gain professional experience, relationships and contacts, and to develop their careers simultaneously to the MA.

Benefits of the Program

The program is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in Philosophy and Cultural Diplomacy, using a historical and case study approach. The curriculum offers an in-depth perspective over the contemporary issues and topics in the field of analytic philosophy, including the following: epistemology, philosophic logics, the philosophy of language, and the philosophy of mind. The program consists of classroom seminars supplemented by lectures at the university as well as: briefings and visits to at international and non-governmental organizations, educational events, conferences, tours, and meetings with foreign officials, which are further incorporated into the curriculum.

Students will meet with leading experts working in international organizations, governments, embassies, and academic institutions, and will engage with specialists in the areas of Philosophy, Politics, International Relations, Human Rights, Culture, Peace Building, Multilateral Diplomacy, Conflict Resolution, Development, and Economics.

The program provides students with theoretical and practical experience for both academic and professional development. It allows students to create a solid professional network and form a concrete foundation for many future academic and professional career choices.

On a practical level, the program prepares students for engagement in philosophy, the humanities, academia, the international arena, civil society, politics, governmental organizations and international economic organizations.

The professional development will provide students with valuable professional experience and contacts in the fields that they plan to work in after the MA and can greatly improve students' chances of acquiring their preferred career.

Semester 2 (30 Credits)

During Semester two, students will begin their coursework in Analytic Philosophy and take the courses listed below.

Semester 3 (30 Credits)

During three three Students will continue their coursework in Analytic Philosophy and take the courses listed below.

• Epistemology
• The Philosophy of Mind
• Philosophy of Language
• Semester 4 (30 Credits)

Following three semesters of academic study, students will be qualified to write an in-depth analysis, in the form of a final thesis, on a topic of their choice related to the theme of the program. In addition to writing the Master's dissertation, students will be required to take two courses, one "The Disseration Seminar," which will guide them in the completion of their thesis.

Mandatory Courses for Semester Four are:
• Metaethics
• The Dissertation Seminar

Scholarship

Scholarships, equaling up to 10% deduction of tuition costs are available for students based on educational excellence and/ or financial need. Although each scholarship request will be evaluated on an individual basis, students are expected to have an above-average grade point of 4.5 (of 5.0) in order to qualify for a grant. The Degree is offered by the University of Bucharest in partnership with the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy. By studying cultural diplomacy in tandem with globalization, students will gain a deep comprehension of this innovative, emerging academic field, which is gradually taking on a greater level of importance and relevance in the contemporary global arena.

Program Curriculum

The MA program follows the conventional university structure of a two-year course divided into four different semesters. Students are offered an array of optional courses to accompany mandatory courses, work experience opportunities and the final thesis. During the first year the first semester will consist of three mandatory modules and two optional as the second semester will consist of the professional development program and 2 elective courses, whilst in the second year students will continue to the University of Bucharest in Romania for the 3rd Semester and the 4th Semester- the Thesis. Part of the 4th Semester could be completed from distance as well, as the students will produce a final thesis on a related topic of choice. At the end of the forth semesters, the students will be then required to defend their Thesis at the University of Bucharest in Romania.

By studying cultural diplomacy in tandem with global governance, students will gain a deep comprehension of this innovative, emerging academic field, which is gradually taking on a greater level of importance and relevance in the contemporary global arena.

Program Curriculum

The MA in Global Governance and Cultural Diplomacy is a yearlong program spread over three semesters.
• The first semester is spent in Berlin, at the ICD Center for Cultural Diplomacy Studies. The main priority of the curriculum for the first semester is to provide students with a solid foundation and understanding of the history and contemporary practice of Cultural Diplomacy, as well as future applications of the field.
• The second semester of the program will begin at the University of Siena. The primary focuses of the curriculum for the second semester are the essential theories, practices, and institutions in the fields of International Relations and Global Governance. Students will attend four modular classes and will be assessed based on class participation and the completion of term papers.
• The second semester will be followed by a professional development semester, the aim of which is to assist students in their future careers.

• A core curriculum of global governance and Cultural Diplomacy courses, taught from an inter-disciplinary approach encompassing political, economic, social and cultural influences on the two emerging fields.

• The high quality of the curriculum and faculty provided by the Centre for Cultural Diplomacy Studies will provide appropriate preparation for students’ evolving careers in academia as well as in the international, public and private sectors.
• All MA students are invited to support and participate in ICD conferences and events throughout the course of their studies. This provides experience and contacts that will prove quite valuable in the professional development of the students.

Accreditation

The Master’s Degree is awarded by the University of Siena, which is recognized as a fully accredited institution of higher education with the right to award university degrees. The University of Siena is part of the Bologna Process set in place by the European Commission, and uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) to award degrees. Credits obtained through our MA program are equivalent to those of courses at universities in all other 30+ signatory countries.. Upon Completion of the Program students will earn 60 credits.

Scholarship

Scholarships, equaling up to 10% deduction of tuition costs are available for students based on educational excellence and/ or financial need. Although each scholarship request will be evaluated on an individual basis, students are expected to have an above-average grade point of 4.5 (of 5.0) in order to qualify for a grant. The Financial Aid application is a two-step process; Students interested in applying for a scholarship are required to submit their initial aid application request as soon as they have formally applied to the program, completed the first step of the application, and have been accepted into the program. Scholarships are then determined for the second and 4th semesters.

The MA Degree in International Economics & Cultural Diplomacy is offered by the Babes-Bolyai University in partnership with the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy.

Program Curriculum

The program consists of 120 ECTS credits in total and has duration of four semesters, which take place in Berlin, Germany and Cluj, Romania. The first two semesters of the program are hosted by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin and the third and the forth semesters are hosted by the Babes-Bolyai University.

The degree focuses on several academic disciplines related to International Relations, International Economics, and Global Politics, with a particular emphasis on cultural diplomacy and its historical and contemporary application in the public sector, private sector and civil society. The degree prepares students for careers in diverse fields, such as the field of international relations, the humanities, business, the financial sector, politics and culture, with a special focus on Cultural Diplomacy institutions and the application of Cultural Diplomacy in the framework of foreign policy and international economics.

• The program offers students a core curriculum in international relations and international business education, preparing the future leaders of tomorrow for the leadership, marketing, and strategic skills they will need to build careers in economics or business.

The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy in Africa 2014
“Building Economic Bridges to Enhance African Sustainable Development and Economic Growth"

The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy in Africa 2014 will present the importance of building cultural bridges for the benefits of African national security, economy, and well-being of African citizens, while illustrating the cost-effective advantages of such programs compared to other policy alternatives. The Symposium will bring together African legislators, representatives of the private sector and civil society as well as representatives from the international community to initiate joint-programs that will increase the volume of the African Union and national governments' engagement in cultural diplomacy. The Symposium will campaign for new programs, increased budgets and greater governmental attention of the unique opportunities practicing cultural diplomacy can bring. The Symposium will also publish a report based on the speeches and suggestions from all speakers and participants, which will be delivered to the African Union, African government's policy and decision-makers as well as to the international community.

Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les transformations qui ont marqué le début d'une nouvelle ère dans les pays francophones, avec la tâche immense de reconstruire les villes, les cultures et les sociétés, ont constitué une expérience politique unique et incomparable, avec d'importantes leçons à conférer au reste du monde.

Alors que la France maintient son engagement pour la stabilité de la région francophone, et pour ses membres qui partagent non seulement une langue, mais incarnent aussi une solidarité autour de valeurs communes et l'objectif commun d'assurer un avenir harmonieux, il existe toujours le besoin constant d'utiliser les outils modernes disponibles afin de maintenir et de développer une coopération réussie.

De plus, alors que les politiques économiques sont la principale préoccupation de chacun, la montée d’opinions divergentes sur des questions telles que l’engagement militaire et la nature de la gouvernance supranationale menacent de diviser la région, testant ainsi l’engagement des pays membres de la francophonie.

Il est évident qu'une plus grande confiance à l'égard d'une diplomatie fondée sur la culture n'est en aucun cas une solution miracle pour répondre aux problèmes complexes qui affectent le monde, mais poussera certainement à la poursuite d’une entente francophone afin de résoudre certains des défis essentiels à la promotion d'une coopération régionale durable et pacifique.

La conférence se déroulera sur une période de deux jours à Paris et aura lieu au Sénat français.
La conférence vise à accroître la prise de conscience et la compréhension des fondements historiques et théoriques de la Francophonie et le rôle que peut jouer la diplomatie culturelle pour unir les pays francophones aujourd'hui.

Basée à Paris, la conférence aura lieu au Sénat français et dans un certain nombre de lieux politiques, historiques et culturels importants de la ville.

Les orateurs et les délégués du symposium comprendront des responsables politiques, des diplomates, les principaux responsables gouvernementaux, des universitaires de haut niveau, des auteurs de renom, des journalistes et des artistes célèbres. Ces conférenciers comprennent un grand nombre d'individus du Conseil consultatif de l’Institut pour la Diplomatie Culturelle.
